All domestic students admitted to a Master's by Research or PhD automatically receive the RTP Fee Offset (tuition waiver). The stipend is awarded separately based on merit.

You are eligible if you:

  • Are you a domestic or international student from any country

  • Have applied for, or are currently enrolled in, a Master's by Research or PhD at the University of Melbourne

  • Meet the academic entry requirements for your chosen course

How are scholarship winners selected?

Scholarships are awarded by merit. Selection panels rank applicants based on:

  • Academic results from your most recent completed degree

  • Research potential in your field of study

  • Relevant professional experience, publications, or specialist qualifications (where applicable)


How to Apply

There is no separate scholarship application. You are automatically considered when you apply for a graduate research degree.

  • Submit your application by the course closing date.

  • You will receive confirmation within 7 business days that you have been automatically considered for scholarships.

Current/ Deferred Students 31 October

Submit the online scholarship form by 31 October each year to be considered for the following year.

Applications can be lodged at any time throughout the year. You must apply by the relevant closing date to be included in a scholarship round. Most scholarships are awarded in the first two rounds.
