Eligibility Requirements

Academic Qualifications

Required:

  • Master's degree (or equivalent second-cycle degree)

  • Must include a written thesis/research component

  • Degree must qualify for PhD admission in the country of completion

  • All studies (including the thesis) must be completed by the end of the application period

Institution Recognition:

  • Must be from an officially recognized institution

  • Must have a degree-conferring authority

  • Verified by the official authorizing body of the country


Language Proficiency

Required: Academic-level proficiency in ONE of:

  • Finnish

  • Swedish

  • English

Can demonstrate in any language regardless of thesis language

Acceptable proof:

  • Previous degree in the language

  • Language test (IELTS, TOEFL, etc.)

  • University certificate

Step 2 – Contact a Supervisor: Reach out to a potential supervisor at the university before applying. You'll need their confirmation.

Step 3 – Prepare These Documents
